Lead Global Technical Specialist, Water and Rural Infrastructure

Tarek Kotb

Tarek Kotb is Lead Global Technical Specialist, Water and Rural Infrastructure at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). He assists the Fund’s member countries in their efforts to design and implement programmes with water and rural infrastructure components. Previously, Kotb served as Country Director for the Asia and the Pacific Region as well as the Near East, North Africa and Europe Region.

Before joining the Fund in 2014, Kotb served as the First Assistant (equivalent to Deputy Minister) to the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt (MWRI), and as a World Bank Water Resources Management Specialist and Head of the Planning Sector and Nile Water Sector in MWRI. His international experience in rural development projects incorporates extensive work in several countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Kotb holds a Ph.D. in Water Resources Management and Environmental Engineering from Osaka Prefecture University (Japan), M.Sc. in Irrigation Engineering from Southampton University (UK) and a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and Public Works from Ain Shams University (Egypt). He is awardee of the FAO Improved Institutional Quality & Enhanced Impact on Food Systems (2009).
